The city I am talking about (Tokyo) presents us with the
following valuable paradox:
“this city does indeed have a center, but that center is
empty.
Roland Barthes, “Empire of Symbols”
There was once a person who found “Utsuro” at the center of “Japaneseness” It absorbs because of its emptiness, and persists only as an idea because it has no form. this emptiness attracts not only one, but even different culture.
The Japanese also call it “AIDA,” which they cherish. Because there is an space, time, room, andpeople, it is possible to maintain the ambiguity. this method is considered the “Japaneseway.
The GARAN is a hollow UTSURO with possibilities. the differences brought about by the auspiciousness are the nourishment for new creations. We hope to be a part of the “Japanese style” in some aspect.
